Putting Myself Out There

Updated: Jun 1, 2020

Omg this is a big step for myself and my business. It's about getting personal and bringing us together. My very first blog post.

So this is me on the right with my dearest friend Kathy. My friends will tell you that I don't post photos of myself so this is a really big deal for me.

I wanted to take the time to introduce myself, I've never been a blogger and I'm going to be learning on the go. I suck at English and make plenty of mistakes, so you will have to forgive me for that.

This is where life happens and we find the beauty in mistakes and awkward moments with friends that we call family.

I cannot tell you how fortunate I have been to have this space at our shop, its saved my life in more ways than I can tell you. I have met the most amazing people on this journey, and I have heard many stories that need to be told. I have learnt things that I couldn't have learnt without this shop and I want to share them all. well as many as I can.

How does this fit into a second hand business?

Well what I didn't realise when I started out was how much emotions would play into this business and how much healing I would get from it. The chatter you hear when the customers are reminiscing about their grandmother's tea set. The table setting that was used and well cared for. The discussions with children about the good old days, and how you had to plan your trips with a road map days ahead.

Then there is the next stage in life, the downsizing, how to let go of the treasures we have acquired over the years. How to fit all your worldly possessions into your smaller home. What about the nursing homes? what happens to all their possessions? who makes the decisions?

Then there is the loved ones that we lose, that time in our life where everything shifts sideways. We are there for the ones that need us, and I like to think that I give dignity and respect to their memories by finding new homes for loved treasures. Often these things come with stories and the marks of life, it doesn't mean that the journey or story ends there. It continues on...
